Back to School 2010
Parker entering his first day of Kindergarten. He was all gung-ho until we got to the classroom door. Then he got nervous, but his teacher took over and he seemed fine when I walked away. I, however, cried as I walked out the door. I do not remember having this hard of a time when I left Briton on his first day of Kindergarten.
My boys are so handsome. I told them this morning that they were going to be the two best looking boys at their school! I am so glad they are such good friends to each other; they really are the best of buds.

Our new home . . .
We are all settled in and enjoying being back in Burley!
You better look quick before the dust starts to settle again and the kids start drawing pictures in it. And yes, that is laundry on the yellow couch, but it's clean; it needs to folded and/or ironed. (I'll get to that as soon as I am done with this post.) Also, notice the kids playing in the dirt out in front of the house. All my hard work in cleaning the house will be in vain by the time they are done playing outside and come inside to play covered in dirt. Oh well, drop by next week for a visit, maybe I'll have the house clean again by then . . . :)

Cassia County Fair Parade
I took the kids to the Cassia County Fair and Rodeo Parade where we met up with Jennifer and her kids. These 7 children get along so well; they are best buds!

4th of July campout at Blauer's house
We camped in grandma and grandpa Blauer's backyard for the 4th of July. The kids loved it!! We had a delicious dutch oven dinner, roasted marshmallows and made smores, and lit off some fireworks. We also gathered around in a circle and shared some skits, then grandma pulled out here ukelele and sang while the kids danced around and acted silly. We all had a lot of fun and are looking forward to doing it again!!

The new school year is upon us!
Brian started his final semester at CSI this evening. He is taking the last 3 classes he needs to receive his Associates Degree online; Speech, a math class, and a computer class. Hopefully it doesn't keep him so busy that he doesn't have time to spend with his family. I know sometimes those classes can pile on the workload! He is determined to continue his reign on the President's List so to him I say, "Good luck and no, I will not help you with the story problems!".
Briton and Parker are enrolled at Dworshak Elementary in the second grade and kindergarten respectively. Briton's teacher is Ms. Troxel and Parker's teacher is Mrs. Wahlquist. I am told they are both very good teachers and am looking forward to meeting them Thursday evening at "Meet the Teacher" night. Both boys have all of their supplies in their new backpacks ready to go and I took them clothes shopping last week. They are all set to start school and I think they are both pretty excited, too!
I begin my Cosmetology schooling after the Labor Day holiday. I have to report for orientation on the 7th and classes begin on the 8th. I am actually really excited to get started; I have been waiting 15 years to do this!
Kaelee will be the only one left out of the "homework hour(s)" that will take place at the dining room table each night after dinner, but I don't think she'll mind. She'll probably grab her crayons and coloring book just so she can "do what we are doing".

Welcome Home
We are all moved in, except for the fact that the boys do not have their beds yet and all three of the kids' clothes are still in suitcases; their dressers should be here next week. I was going to take some pictures of the house to post on here, but the battery is dead in my camera. I will recharge it and get some pictures posted, perhaps I'll wait until the dressers and bed are here and put together.
I really didn't waste any time in unpacking. It took all of two days to get everything put away and all the pictures hung on the walls. Of course, I made myself sick and spent all day Tuesday on the couch, but at least my house is put together!

We have gotten too comfortable in Jerome, thus we are on the move AGAIN. Brian has been working in Heyburn and the 4:30 a.m. commute has gotten to be a bit much. We found a small house a few miles out of town and will be moving July 30 and 31. Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day Brian!
You are the best father; your children adore you and want so much to grow up to be just like you. I love to watch the way they watch you and mimick the things you do and say. I love to see them run out of the front door to greet you on the sidewalk when you arrive home from work. You are truely loved!

Family is everything . . .
I was washing the dishes tonight and having a conversation with my sweet husband about the importance of families and some of the trials we have been through. We discussed the good, as well as, some of the bad decisions we have made and the effect they have had on us and our children. We discussed the things we have learned from the results of such decisions, also both good and bad. We are struggling with my income being the only income while Brian finishes his schooling, but we are happy. We know that we are where we are supposed to be and doing what we are supposed to be doing. Our children are even happy, except when we tell them to pick up their toys and bedrooms or put their clothes away, but isn't that the way children are supposed to be? I love my children; they are my world.
I guess the reason for my "journal entry" tonight is that the conversation I was having with Brian brought back some thoughts I had toward my own sisters and brothers. We thought we were pretty close growing up, but lately I realized how little I know about the goings on in their lives. I had no idea my sister was in a car accident until 3 days after it happened and the sad thing is that I found out about it on Facebook. What has this world come to? Can we not pick up the telephone if the miles prevent us from visiting face to face? Brian talks to his sisters and brother almost weekly, if not a couple times a week. I had to take a step back and think about the relationship I want to have with my sisters and brothers again. I have resolved to call them once a week; I told them I want to know everything that happened during the week. I wanted to know about the small things; I wanted to know about the big things. I had no idea my niece was still having cross-eyed problems and that her little sister was starting to have some of the same problems. There may not be a whole lot I can do monetarily or physically to help, but I can keep them in my prayers and that, I think, can be the most important contribution I can make. So to those wonderful sisters and brothers reading this blog enrty, get your news ready and expect my phone call! You all play a very important part in my life and each of you hold a special place in my heart; I love you Peggy and Jonathan, Nancy and Greg, Stephen and Lindsay, Thayne and Amber, Elizabeth and Brett, and Andrea. I also love the children that you have brought into this family and have yet to bring into the family.

Spring Soccer
Parker's first and last soccer game! He played a whole 2 minutes and decided he had had enough soccer. I was proud of him for getting out there and trying, maybe he'll change his mind when he gets a little older and want to play again.
Briton really enjoyed playing soccer. He was a little standoffish at his first game, but by the time the last game rolled around he was right in there trying to get the ball. He even scored a couple goals!
I loved being out there cheering on my boys and watching them play!
My "new"s . . .
I got a new camera and decided to play with it one night. I usually do not take pictures of myself, but this one turned out really cute and I LOVE it.
I decided to try to sell my old mini van. Despite it's ugliness it only took a couple weeks to get rid of it!
I bought this to replace the mini van, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am! I am loving my new car!
I told Brian I needed to get some family stickers for my car. I have wanted some for so long and finally ordered them when I got my new car.
The one other thing I want to brag about is my ipod. Brian bought it for me because I was complaining about my palm pilot dying and having to carry around a big, bulky day planner. I said an ipod would be ideal because I could put all my contacts in it plus it has the calendar. He didn't think I would use it that much, but I have definitely proven him wrong. I don't go anywhere without it; it has become my brain! I even put the scriptures and hymn book on it!!

Easter weekend 2010
I have greatly enjoyed my General Conference weekend. We spent Saturday in Burley where we watched conference with Brian's parents. I had printed out some activity pages from the internet for the kids to color while they watched, but the only one who really paid attention was Briton. Between sessions Brian helped his dad cut down a tree in the backyard while the boys supervised and Kaelee, grandma, and I decorated some paper mache eggs with foam stickers. After the second session the boys and I colored hard-boiled eggs. Thank goodness I had the table covered with newspaper and aprons covering the boys' clothes because they made a mess, but they had fun! Then Brian went to the priesthood session with his dad while the kids, grandma, and I went to Aunt Jenny's house to play, visit, and have ice cream. We got home late, but still beat the Easter Bunny home.
Today we woke to the noise of the boys playing with the dart guns the Easter Bunny brought them and Kaelee got a new Princess Barbie doll. She was thrilled! Each of the kids also got some new church clothes (they were in dire need of them). After breakfast we watched the first session of conference at home before heading to Burley again to have a ham dinner with my family.
I will post pictures of the kids in their new clothes next week after I get their picture before church.

Have you missed us . . . ?
Okay, so my idea of using my blog as a type of journal has not been going very well. I get busy, and blogging is the last thing on my mind.
Where to begin? What to report?
Brian is doing very well in school and his grades are excellent. He has really been enjoying everything he has been learning. He is getting anxious to be done with school and getting back out in "real world" making money and supporting his family. He has taken on another project this semester and upon its completion, the school will give him a scholarship that will cover his tuition for his remaining summer semester. He has been super busy with his everyday homework and the project yet he still manages to be a wonderful father and a terific husband.
Briton has been doing very well in school. He has been getting 100%'s on his math and spelling tests every week. He loves to read and has started reading some small chapter books, I think his favorites are the Flat Stanley books. He is getting ready to take the IRI tests where the kids have to read so many words per minute, but I don't think Briton is going to have a problem with that. The kids have to read 53 words per minute and when we time him at home he is reading upwards of 80 words per minute. His teacher sent a note home the other day that she didn't need to meet with us for parent teacher conferences because he is doing so well and she was just going to send the papers home with him. I am so very proud of my boy!
Parker, oh what to say about Parker. He has learned to write his name and is writing it on every piece of paper he can find. He tried to play soccer, but get a little nervous with the crowd of parents watching and the crowd of kids chasing the ball around the field so he decided he was done. I am proud of the little guy for trying and maybe he'll grow out of this "phobia" or whatever it is he has with crowds. He can be so funny sometimes and loves to play with his big brother.
Kaelee is a true princess! She loves to dress up in her princess costumes and has even worn them to daycare a few times. (I have learned to pick my battles.) She loves to follow mommy around the house and watch me put on my makeup and do my hair. She is even a good little mommy to her many baby dolls. I love my boys with all my heart, but there is just something about my little girl that I just cannot explain. I love her to death!
I, on the other hand, have been struggling. I feel that something is "off" within me. I am in the process of getting some blood tests run to check my thyroid. The doctor is also checking for some vitamin deficiencies. I hope that something turns up and we can figure out what is going on. My kids need their mommy back and Brian needs his wife back. I will post the results when I know.
That about covers the past month and a half of the goings on in the Blauer household. I am looking forward to Easter and the Easter Bunny hiding all the plastic eggs around the house for the kids to find Easter morning.

Friday evening Brian and I were able to get out of the house and enjoy each other's company for a few hours. I called a neighbor to babysit so Brian and I could go to the Valentine dinner and dance that the stake put on. The dinner was delicious and was catered by an Italian restaurant in Twin Falls (I think it was Tomatoes). After dinner we had a short lesson on how to waltz before the dancing got underway. Neither Brian nor I are very good dancers, but I enjoy wiggling around to a catchy beat. Let's just say my knees are not 16 years old anymore and there is a lot more of me bouncing around on that dance floor.
We had a great time and enjoyed getting to know a few other couples from the ward better: Scott and Jami, Collin and Elizabeth, Derek and Julianne, and Bernie and Janet. I will post a picture of all of us shortly.

What was I thinking!?!
So, a couple weeks ago Briton and Parker were sliding down the stairs again only this time instead of using their quilts from their beds they had a sleeping bag. They were lying on the slick side and trying to slide down on the flannel side, so me, being the helpful mom that I am suggested to them that if they turn the sleeping over they could slide down the stairs better! After making this suggestion I looked at Brian with total surprise and asked him if I just said what I thought I said. Briton has only had his cast off for a couple weeks and here I am suggesting another way for him to break another bone or to break one of Parker's bones!

Brian Blauer Family - 2009
January – Rang in the New Year by putting the kids to bed at their regular bedtime and turning in early ourselves.
February – Summer’s 5-month-old niece, Melanie, underwent open-heart surgery at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake. She is the second daughter of Thayne and Amber.
March – We took the kids to Salt Lake; where we visited Melanie in the hospital then went on to Temple Square, the Church History Museum, and the Discovery Center. The kids’ favorite part was staying in a motel.
April – Parker caught Pneumonia; Summer quit her job at Rocky Mountain Publishing.
May – Kaelee celebrated her 2nd birthday. Summer’s Grandma Ottley passed away, leaving her grandparent count to one: Grandma Hurst.
June – Brian quit his job at Idaho Power and moved us to Jerome.
July – The Hurst family reunion was held at Cherry Hill Campground in Utah where we camped for three nights. The kids had a blast and really enjoyed getting to know their cousins better. We are already looking forward to the next reunion in 2011.
August – Briton and Parker rode their bikes in the Jerome County Fair Parade and are looking forward to doing it again next year. Summer was called to be 1st Counselor in Young Women. Briton started 1st grade and Brian returned to school at CSI to study Drafting.
September – Brian was called to teach Elder’s Quorum twice a month.
October – Briton broke his leg on Aunt Jenny’s trampoline during General Conference weekend, a first for our family. He turned seven just days later.
November – Summer got a job at the Jerome County Assessor’s Office as Receptionist/Data Entry. Parker and Kaelee returned to daycare where the transition went very smoothly.
December – Kaelee is pushing us to help her get potty-trained. Parker celebrated his fifth birthday with grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He requested ice cream cake instead of just cake and ice cream. Yummy! Brian received all A’s for the semester. Brian’s dad went in for back surgery and made it home in time for Christmas.
We have had a year full of excitement, sorrow, and worry. We are thankful for the challenges we have faced and overcome and are looking forward to another exciting year ahead of us. We wish all of you and yours a Prosperous and Happy New Year.

An End and a Beginning
Wow! Time flies when you're too busy to notice! I cannot believe my last post was Thanksgiving and here we are at the beginning of the new year. I am happy to announce that not much has changed and at the same time a little disappointed too. I am looking for some excitement!
Christmas brought some important truths to be remembered. The holiday is not about the toys and presents, but about the Christ child's birth and being able to spend time as a family. We had a small, second-hand Christmas this year. The kids were so excited they were up at 2 am! Brian and I had just gone to bed about 11:30. We tried to sleep some while the kids played with a few of their toys until they kept coming into the bedroom wanting to open the rest of their presents. At 6 am we finally gave in and got up. We were done with presents, dressed, and had breakfast eaten by 8 am! We were so tired that 4 out of the 5 of us went back to sleep until noon. Briton just sat on the couch watching cartoons and playing his new game for his Nintendo DS. Thank heaven for good little boys! We spent the rest of the day and the day after visiting family.
The new year brought a few surprises. We were planning on having a party with Brian's sister's families, but Kaelee ended up getting sick so we had to cancel. Brian had been sick a few days earlier, then I was sick, and then Kae got it, but after she puked, took a bath, and napped for a couple hours she was fine. We ended up eating finger food and watching a movie with the kids, then let them ring in the new year a few hours early because they were all getting tired. Brian and I made it til about 11:30, then we were too tired to stay up anymore. It's funny, the new year comes whether you're there to see it or not.
Today Briton got his cast off! It has been a long awaited day and we were all excited. He walks funny and probably will for the next week until he ets full range of his ankle again. He was so brave when the nurse cut the cast off and I could see the fear in his face as he watched the saw.
As for resolutions . . . they are overrated! I have resolved not to make any resolutions. I am simply going to take small steps toward the big picture. When step one has been reached, I will move on to step two and so on. My big picture consists of me being a few pounds lighter and few inches slimmer. Step one is watching the portions I consume, step two is being consistent on the treadmill, I have not yet come up with step three. I also am not setting a date as to when I want to have these steps accomplished because I do not know how many times I will have to start over at step one.
I will keep you posted . . .

Briton just sat on the couch watching cartoons and playing his new game for his Nintendo DS. Thank heaven for good little boys! We spent the rest of the day and the day after visiting family.
The new year brought a few surprises. We were planning on having a party with Brian's sister's families, but Kaelee ended up getting sick so we had to cancel. Brian had been sick a few days earlier, then I was sick, and then Kae got it, but after she puked, took a bath, and napped for a couple hours she was fine. We ended up eating finger food and watching a movie with the kids, then let them ring in the new year a few hours early because they were all getting tired. Brian and I made it til about 11:30, then we were too tired to stay up anymore. It's funny, the new year comes whether you're there to see it or not.
Today Briton got his cast off! It has been a long awaited day and we were all excited. He walks funny and probably will for the next week until he ets full range of his ankle again. He was so brave when the nurse cut the cast off and I could see the fear in his face as he watched the saw.
As for resolutions . . . they are overrated! I have resolved not to make any resolutions. I am simply going to take small steps toward the big picture. When step one has been reached, I will move on to step two and so on. My big picture consists of me being a few pounds lighter and few inches slimmer. Step one is watching the portions I consume, step two is being consistent on the treadmill, I have not yet come up with step three. I also am not setting a date as to when I want to have these steps accomplished because I do not know how many times I will have to start over at step one.
